Small teams
Zendesk alternatives for a small Shopify team
Zendesk is not overpriced for what it is. It is built for support departments with managers, shift patterns and service level agreements, and most Shopify stores are three people sharing an inbox.

What it costs in the UK
| Plan | Per agent per month | Three agents | Six agents |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suite Team | £45 | £135 | £270 |
| Suite Professional | £89 | £267 | £534 |
| Copilot add-on | £40 | £120 | £240 |
Annual billing rates from Zendesk's UK pricing page, checked 1 October 2026. The monthly billing uplift was not published there. Copilot is an add-on on top of a Suite plan, not instead of one.
The per agent model, and who it suits
Zendesk charges for seats and gives you unlimited tickets. That is the right way round for a business where ticket volume is high and stable and headcount is the thing you control. A support department with twelve agents knows exactly what it is paying next year.
It is the wrong way round for a store where two people answer everything and ticket volume swings with whatever shipping did that week. You pay the same in a quiet month, and the thing you would want to buy, fewer tickets reaching a human, is not what you are being sold.
What you are really paying for
Routing rules, SLA tracking, shift and capacity management, agent performance reporting, granular permissions, audit trails. This is a management layer, and it is excellent.
If nobody at your company manages support as a function, you are buying a department's tooling for a team that does not have a department. Most of those features will never be switched on.
What fits a three person team instead
A Shopify native help desk like Gorgias or Re:amaze puts the order on the ticket, which is the thing you are missing. Watch the billing axis though: Gorgias charges per ticket and Re:amaze per user, so you are swapping one growth penalty for another.
A custom desk at £1,000 to build and £69 a month flat, where the AI usage is inside the monthly rather than metered per interaction. That suits a store whose support load is concentrated in a few repetitive questions your own order data can answer.
Staying on Zendesk if you are growing into a real support function. Migrating out and back in a year is worse than paying for twelve months of headroom.
